The Globe Building was constructed in the early 1900s by the Globe Casket Company, then sat vacant and condemned for years until Jeff Nicholson redeveloped it in 1998. He saw the potential in the heavy timber construction and brick walls, and he carved out a dramatic atrium entrance and a beautiful two-story restaurant space that now houses The Beer Exchange.
These are true loft offices, with the original beam and brick exposed and the entire space flooded with natural light from the many windows facing all directions. Views to the north and east are of other properties expertly redeveloped by Nicholson; to the south and west, you can see the Festival Site and the quickly-changing downtown Kalamazoo skyline.
The building includes onsite parking, and it is walkable to Kalamazoo’s finest restaurants, including The Beer Exchange, Shakespeare’s, HopCat, Maru Sushi, Bell’s Eccentric Café, and Food Dance. Coffee break options are provided by nearby Water Street Coffee and Sarkozy Bakery.
Soon to be available is Nicholson’s own office, as PlazaCorp is expanding into larger headquarters by the end of 2018. This 3,282 SF office has views in three directions and a conference room overlooking the atrium.
